About Us

Cornerstone Church is an evangelical Baptist congregation meeting in Bromley Cross, Bolton. We are a community built on the gospel of Jesus Christ: committed to the Bible, to one another, and to the people of Bolton.

We are not a perfect church, and we have never claimed to be. What we are is a gathering of people who have found in Jesus Christ a grace they did not deserve, and who want to share that grace with everyone around them. If you are looking for a place where the Bible is taken seriously, where questions are welcome, and where you will be known by name, this is it.

Four Marks of Our Identity

These commitments have shaped Cornerstone from the beginning. They are not labels worn lightly. They are convictions rooted in Scripture and lived out in community.

Biblical

The Bible is the word of God, the supreme authority for everything we believe and everything we do. It is not a collection of inspiring stories or helpful moral principles. It is God speaking to his people. At Cornerstone, the Bible sits at the centre of our Sunday services, our small groups, and our personal lives. We do not preach our own ideas. We open the Scriptures and explain what God has said.

Evangelical

We believe the gospel, the good news that Jesus Christ died for sinners and rose again, is the most important message in the world. It is not one truth among many. It is the truth on which everything else depends. We are committed to proclaiming this gospel clearly, to everyone, in everything we do. Being evangelical means we believe that people need to hear the gospel, respond to it in repentance and faith, and be changed by it.

Baptistic

We believe that baptism is for those who have personally trusted in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. It is not a rite performed on infants or a means of conveying grace. It is the outward sign of an inward reality, a public declaration by a believer that they have died to sin and been raised to new life in Christ. The church, in our understanding, is a gathered community of people who can each give account of God’s saving work in their lives.

Community-Centred

We are not just a Sunday gathering. We are a community committed to one another through the week: in Bible study, in prayer, in practical care, and in friendship. Our heart is for Bolton. We want our faith to be visible and tangible in the streets and homes around us. Church, for us, is not a building you visit once a week. It is a family you belong to every day.

Our History

Cornerstone Church has its roots in a desire to establish a gospel-centred, Bible-teaching witness in the Bromley Cross area of Bolton.

From the beginning, the conviction driving the church has been simple: that the faithful preaching of the Bible, combined with a genuine love for people, is the means by which God builds his church and transforms lives. That conviction has never wavered.

Over time, the congregation has been shaped by a rich mixture of people: long-term Bolton residents and those new to the area, young families and older members, those with deep roots in the church and those discovering faith for the very first time. All have found a home at Cornerstone.

The church continues to look outward, committed to evangelism in Bolton and to the support of gospel work both locally and further afield. Our midweek Bible studies and prayer groups reflect our conviction that the church is built not by human effort alone, but by the Spirit of God, through his Word, in answer to prayer.
